THE PHOTO GUIDE

Choosing your
pet’s photo.

You don’t need a professional camera. A clear original photograph in soft daylight is the best starting point.

01

Meet their eye line.

Crouch to your pet’s height. A front-facing or gentle three-quarter view makes their facial proportions easier to read.

02

Let the light in.

Use soft daylight or open shade. Avoid strong backlighting, flash glare and dark shadows across the face.

03

Keep the details.

Show the eyes, ears and distinctive markings. Use the original photo, with enough space around the head.

LOOK FOR

Clear & natural.

  • Eyes in focus and ears inside the frame
  • Coat colours that look true to your pet
  • A familiar expression and a comfortable pose

TRY ANOTHER PHOTO

Blurred or cropped.

  • Motion blur or a face far away in the scene
  • Cropped ears, filters or heavy compression
  • Screenshots instead of original camera files
More than one pet?

Choose one clear individual photograph for each pet. They do not need to pose together. We arrange the composition; a preferred position or a size difference that is unclear from the photos can go in the optional notes.

A natural portrait or a character portrait?

Use a clear pet photograph for either. You do not need to dress your pet up. The clothing and character styling are part of the design.

Only an older photograph available?

Use the original file or a high-quality scan. If the face is unclear, contact the studio to discuss suitability before ordering.

Which files work?

JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB per photo. Convert HEIC to JPG first. Selecting a file creates a preview on your device. Add to bag uploads the selected photos with your portrait.
